Madrigirls

Madrigirls was formed in 2000 by co-directors Katy Cooper and Catriona Hutchinson. The group now consists of 26 female undergraduates, postgraduates, alumni and friends of the University of Glasgow. As well as an annual Advent carol service in the University Chapel, we sing in venues across Glasgow and the UK and have recently performed in the Kibble Palace; St Andrew's in the Square; St Patrick's, Anderston; St Mungo's, Simonburn; Jedburgh Abbey and Luss Parish Church.

Radio appearences include a live slot on BBC Radio Scotland's Radio Cafe, and features on Aled Jones' programme 'The Choir' on BBC Radio 3, and on BBC Radio Scotland's 'Global Gatherings' (December 2008).

In 2008 we were involved in filming for BBC Scotland's drama, Fiona's Story starring Gina McKee and directed by Adrian Shergold. The drama was recently nominated for three Scottish BAFTAs.

We've received lots of enquiries about the music we sang in Fiona's Story, particularly the piece sung at the end of the film. This was a manx revival hymn called The Good Old Way. The arrangement we sing is very similar to the version available here. If you're interested in acquiring Katy's arrangement for SSAA choir, please email us.

We are hoping to record the song in 2009, but for now, a rough recording is available to download from our myspace page.
